The Story Of A Life

A Life Writing Workshop with a Spiritual Perspective
Everybody’s life is a story waiting to be told, is it time you picked up the pen and wrote yours?
Story of a life
Life writing embraces the genres of biography, autobiography and travel writing. It can be expressed in a variety of forms, such as poetry, drama, short stories and novels. Personal experience may be presented under the guise of fiction.
This particular workshop combines Creative Writing with Spiritual Awareness and will be of interest to those who feel guided to learn more about their spirituality through the release of their creative abilities. However, this should not exclude anyone who wants to build their confidence in writing. It is suited to all abilities, and participants need not worry about their ‘grammar’, although basic literacy skills are required. This course is about getting started and putting ‘out there’ whatever is being held within. Tidying up on punctuation can come later!
From a spiritual perspective, all life is sacred, but the human life is an opportunity to acquire self-knowledge and experiences which enable the soul to grow and return to the spiritual dimensions with greater awareness of its own nature. The soul incarnates with keys and maps to the lessons and experiences to be acquired. It is also programmed with the desire to share its acquired wisdom for the benefit of others and to raise the collective human consciousness. Exploring memory, family dynamics, personal experiences, astrology and numerology together with meditation can help a soul to become more aware of its own nature and purpose on Earth.
“The pen is mightier than the sword”- a proverb of which I was reminded by my spiritual guides. Each one of us has something valid and beautiful to offer the world. Your words can reach out and touch people in numerous and unaccountable ways. Even if we only influence one person with our individual nugget of wisdom, or change one frown to a smile, or prompt one person to change their perception and open up to new ones, then we have contributed to creating a better world. Sometimes writing and art is about our own healing – learning to express those emotions and thoughts that have been suppressed. Writing is cathartic to the soul.
You may be drawn to exploring the lives of historical characters, or writing a more personal account, or writing about a fictional life. Whatever your reason for being drawn to this course, you will find the skills covered to be invaluable in helping you to get started
The Day

The first workshop in 2010 is planned for Saturday 30th January. After that the next is Sunday 14th March 2010.

The day begins at 10.00am.
There will be a short introduction and meditation to help you connect to your inner essence and to create the perfect energies in which your natural talent can blossom.
We will explore:
Reasons why people choose to write about their life or the lives of others.
Methods of acquiring inspiration
Getting started
Finding a Title
Finding a voice
Selecting a point of view
Defining time scales
Imagination and Life Writing: The relationship between fact and fiction
Finding a form
Keeping Going: the benefits and drawbacks of feedback
There will be plenty of opportunity to practice writing but don’t worry! No-one will be forced or persuaded to read out anything they don’t wish to share.
The day will end at approximately 5.00pm. There will be a break for lunch – please bring your own lunch but biscuits and tea/ coffee or fruit juice will be provided.
You should also bring plenty of writing materials as these cannot be supplied on the day.
Participants can choose to enrol on continuation workshops; shorter classes of four hours duration at monthly intervals costing £25. These will examine writing issues in greater depths. You may choose those of interest to your specific requirements. Participation in a full introductory workshop is a pre-requisite to attendance at a continuation class. Pre-booking is essential.
Participants will be encouraged to stay in touch with each other and will have access to a password protected page on my website for 6 months. This will afford the opportunity to post any work they wish to share with their fellow participants and on which they would like comments (up to 1000 words per month). I will offer ongoing support by commenting on participant’s work posted here (up to two pieces of writing per student within the 6 month period).

About Me
In 1957 I was seven years of age. I had one friend and a speech impediment; only a minor one, but still I preferred not to speak unless I had to. Even without this handicap, I would have found it hard to be heard. I was the youngest of seven children, all of whom were well versed in the art of shouting.
In 1957, on Tuesdays, I would leave my friend at her front door on the way home from school. Paulina also had a problem with her speech. She had private lessons from an elocution teacher in her front room, after school. On one particular day, her teacher arrived just as we were parting. She overheard our conversation and asked me if my mother would let me join my friend with her lessons. That was a pivotal point in my life.
Since then I have travelled up many avenues which have helped me to expand my confidence and ability to express myself, not only through speech, but also through art and the written word.
In the 1990s coincidence once more intervened to channel my natural healing abilities into Reiki. I have taught and practised the Tibetan Usui system since 1995. I also explored the natural world of flowers and crystals, qualifying as an Aroma Therapist and Indian Head Masseuse in order to enhance my knowledge.
In 2001 I participated in a three year course to become a ‘Priestess of the Goddess’. At the same time, I was introduced to and acquired my first Crystal Skull. I have been guided to learn about the transformational qualities of light and sound; about the knowledge contained in myth; the power of art and words; the energy grids of the earth and the universe; Tibetan spirituality; the power of dreams; Angels and Ascended Masters; the relevance of quantum physics and the magic of ritual and ceremony.
In recent years I have been a student of yoga and in particular the philosophy of atiyoga. I have been a lecturer on metaphysics, a channel and a workshop facilitator. I have come a long way from that child of seven.
Communication, on all levels, is an integral part of my spiritual mission. Despite winning awards for fiction at school I ‘opted out’ of A levels and the possibility of doing a degree in literature. However, it was obviously ‘meant to be.’ In 1997 I had a dream in which my guide instructed me to do a literature degree. I followed the dream and graduated with first class honours in Literature and Creative writing. I then had a further dream in which I was shown that I had completed my spiritual puzzle. I had returned to my roots and re-connected to my destiny.
I hope my own experiences and expertise will be a positive influence to those who want to participate in any of my workshops.
